What is CEXGAN?
CEXGAN is the computer system of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain that manages the export of live animals, products of animal origin, animal feed and by-products to other countries. Only veterinarians accredited to provide this service can access this system.
The acronym CEXGAN stands for:: Certificación EXportadora de productos GANaderos (Export Certification for Livestock Products).
Why is this system used?
It is very important to clarify that this system must be used by anyone wishing to travel or move with their pets outside the European Union (for example to the USA, Mexico, Chile, Canada, China, Russia, etc.). CEXGAN is the government's platform for obtaining an official international certificate that guarantees that your pet can enter your destination country.
What is the procedure?
- Vetravel ensures that the animal meets all the legal and health requirements (microchip, vaccination for rabies and other diseases, analytical tests, serology, etc.).
- Between two and ten days before traveling, Vetravel carries out a clinical examination and issues an official health certificate that allows the CEXGAN procedure to start.
- CEXGAN issues the official certificate for the destination country; this can be in paper or digital format depending on the country.
